Describe the bug Unable to properly configure environment to run DPDK Suricata

After following all the steps to setup DPDK suricata, whenever I try and run any of the functions, list-runmodes, list-DPDKintel-ports, or try to run the engine, it gives me a bunch of DPDK errors, or just doesn't display anything. Please help.

I am unable to find any gives me a bunch of DPDK errors in this screenshot. Please share the gives me a bunch of DPDK errors screenshot`.

Note: you have never mentioned what ports are used in DPDK.

you had opened a ticket https://github.com/vipinpv85/DPDK-Suricata_3.0/issues/23, the answer is also provided there showcasing it works. Ideally, you should be using the same ticket.

Easiset way out to debug, I am happy to help. Will wait for you in skype, hangout, zoom for the same.

Hello,

Thank you for following up. I should rephrase, I am simply not able to view any output, when I try and run any of the Suricata methods. All it shows is the notices in the screenshot above. To reproduce, I followed all your instructions for building DPDK and downloading/building Suricata as well. Thus, I believe there was some issue with my environment. Would you be willing to help debug on zoom? I could send you a private zoom link for whatever time works for you.

completed live debug in zoom, found the problem to be 'no ram space for Suricata to create heap'. Steps followed

  1. strace ./src/suricata --list-runmodes show cases resources temporary unavailble
  2. 'free -g' shows 'free' as 0.

note: run the same on another system having memory it is working
