RCE07 errors happen (sometimes?) on the US Visa Scheduling site when trying to claim payments made on the old portal

Description of the problem

A number of users in the Telegram group on US Visa Stampings: India have reported getting RCE07 errors when trying to claim older payments.

Workaround

This Telegram message suggests not trying to claim an existing payment, and instead letting the system automatically apply existing payments:

Hi sharing this info so that it might be useful for you, I was able to resolve the RCE07 error, below are the steps:

1. Please do not try to claim existing payment.
2. Please select any payment mode as if you are trying to make new or another payment.
3. Once you click on next post selecting any payment mode, it will show amount to be paid as 0
4. Once you are here it will ask you to confirm receipt.
5. Once you click on confirm receipt, it will automatically take you to appointment page.
6. Proceed with your date selection and submit it

Start of the problem

The problem appears to have started 2023-07-30, which is around when the new portal started getting used.

This is the first discussion of the issue, without the use of RCE07; this is the first message with explicit mention of RCE07.

The problem continues to be reported in the Telegram group as of 2024-03-13; see for instance this.

End of the problem

Since there's a time limit of 1 year for being able to use old payments, the problem should become irrelevant / inapplicable after 2024-07-30.
