As WoofAreYou is expected to be used by pet daycare owner who knows what happened with his/her business on the past, it is logical to assume that they know whether a particular pet is present or absent on a particular day in the past. However, there are 3 states in WoofAreYou: green, red, and unmarked. This could rise some confusion on what was happening on the unmarked day. One suggestion would be to indicate that a pet is absent unless marked green (so the marker will be red or green only).

Team's Response

From a developer's POV, we cannot assume whether our users know whether a particular pet is present or absent on the day. GREY implies that there is no entry for the pet on that particular day. Hence, it serves as a reminder for daycare owners to double check their attendance and mark it appropriately.

Reason for disagreement: I disagree. I believe if you intend the user to think like that, you should state it in the UG. Otherwise, the user might have the confusion because it is inconsistent with the grey color of the transport label. I didn't include the transport label argument in the original reported bug because I believe that is the correct one. The inconsistency is: In transport, grey automatically means no appointment, and it only changes color if there is some appointments in it, which is what I believe should be the actual behaviour. On the other hand, if what you say about the absence label is your intended behaviour (which is not that intuitive), it has inconsistency in the meaning, which should be considered as a feature flaw bug.

Moreover, your argument about "From a developer's POV, we cannot assume whether our users know whether a particular pet is present or absent on the day. " is invalid because your intended user is a pet daycare owner, which should have all the information of his/her business because of his/her role in the business.
