I realize this request may be a bit difficult to pull off, but w3m can do it (with help of xv, see http://w3m.sourceforge.net/FAQ#www). I would really love it if mdp could display images, even if it's just the common types.
Edit: mpv can do this too, although the image is grainy. w3mimgdisplay is much higher quality.
