The current caption component has a bold/dark background and outside of the footer this is one of the only places on the site to do so. Visually it creates a bit of a juxtoposition with the card content on items like the Single Image Mega Nav where the card houses the most important content. On articles this also clashes with the body text and draws the eye to the bold background of small image captions.
In the vision piece for the colour update we used a transparent background but this requires us to do a full scope check of the component and its uses to make sure it is possible.
