Architectures adapt over time in applications. We should be able to represent this in visual-systems in some fashion, either in-band, or in some evolutionary layer on top of the core structures.

support backwards-compatibility of implementations
make generating migrations easier
provide defaults for new fields
show the semantics of changes as opposed to simply snapshotting differences
