I'm using same PC, same .wad file etc.
v.9.8 FDOOM.EXE works fine
v.9.9 and v.9.9e FDOOM.EXE crashes after selecting the episode when starting a new game, requiring a Ctrl Alt Del

Basically it appears to start loading, then the PC speaker bleeps and the screen corrupts. I have a video - let me know if that would help.

You can just make out the "Knee deep in the shores..." of the episode menu where it dies:

OK I found the problem! It was the .wad file (even though it works in prev versions of FDOOM).

I can't find a way to see what .wad version is which, but the working DOOM1.WAD has a smaller size. I'm happy to roll with this 😀

Well I close this as this was an already defined requirement for FastDoom, all official WADs need to be version 1.9 😅
