hangs on M11x #7

Hi, I'm using i8kutils on my Alienware M11X and have the problem that there is a short hang whenever a different fan speed is set. I found this conversation over at launchpad but can't find a real fix.

Is there any way to get this fully working for me?

Edit: The hang is only induced, when fan speed is set, not when it is read for me

System hanging only when fan speed is set is a problem inherent to the i8k SMM system call for which there is no solution up to now. An improvement might exist if Dell release documentation about laptop fan control.

Thank you for info, my Dell Inspiron 7720 system also has this problem. I wonder when there will be a fix for that if ever. For the record, my system also hangs similarly when lmsensor reads the temperatures.
