Periodic Status=500 on simplesaml requests #624

We are experiencing some periodic problems with our simplesaml setup that 
results in the "no state" error page when trying to log in to our platform. 

The problem can occur suddenly for a user that have had no problems logging in 
earlier. In our apache access log we can see that those requests result in a 
status=500, where they normally seem to result in a Status=303. The requests 
seems otherwise to be perfectly alike.

We have setup with several thousands of logins each day across the nordic 
region (WAYF/Feide/Kalmar2), and somehow a login or two sometimes fails each 
day. 

Do you any suggestions on how we proceed in the clarification of what goes 
wrong?
