The following is the peer review of the project proposal by Ctrl-Alt-Elite . The team members that participated in this review are Kathryn, Emely, Zach, and Matthew.
Describe the goal of the project.
The general goal of their project is assessing the interest in the #dubois challenge and the correlation between interest in the challenge and verification status, likes, and other twitter metrics. Additionally, they hope to understand how people interact with historic events via social media.
Describe the data used or collected.
Tweet meta-data, web scraping from twitter based on the presence of the hashtag for the WEB Du Bois challenge.
Describe how the research question will be answered, e.g. what approaches / methods will be used.
for the first question, it seems they are planning to map the data onto a world map and assessing the geographic location of where the people who are interacting with the hashtag are located, mapping an aesthetic (color or size) to the level of interaction (retweets, likes, etc).
for the second question, they plan on making a visualization to show the variation between number of likes and followers based on verification status. The verification status will be mapped to color or size.
Is there anything that is unclear from the proposal?
We are a little confused on whether the second question is an attempt to generalize the info from the dataset which relates to this specific challenge to general twitter. The first question and the idea for the plot is clear to us.
Provide constructive feedback on how the team might be able to improve their project.
The plot for question #2 seems to be surface level and not making full use of the data set. Also, in the instructions for the plot, we are told to make two figures for each question, but it seems that there is only a plan for 1 figure per question.
What aspect of this project are you most interested in and would like to see highlighted in the presentation.
we are big fans of the map idea and the emphasis on spacial/geographic data in order to see the reach of the #dubois challenge
Provide constructive feedback on any issues with file and/or code organization.
The code style looks great. It is well organized and makes good use of inline code.
