Pros and cons of adopting embedded Discourse for comment threads:

• Pros
  • Off the shelf complete solution that should in theory work well.
  • Should be relatively easy to set up.
• Cons
  • Unclear how to integrate authentication between VizHub and Discourse.
  • Unclear how to automatically create a Discourse post for each viz - and if we do this, how much extra space would this take up in the database?
  • Unclear if this could facilitate private discussions, as all threads are public
  • Lots of effort required for understanding Discourse API and integrating with it
  • Long term dependency on Discourse, which is a massive system

Pros and cons of building our own commenting system:

  • Affords features around "private" discussions
