Recording resolution/frame rate suggestion #280

Open naralee42 opened 10 months ago

Is it possible add the function to switch the recording resolution/frame rate? Like 1080P/60, 1080P/30, 720P/60, 720P/30 etc. And thank you for the long term support of this project.

Thanks for the request, however, there are many open questions. But first it must be answered, for what is this needed?

The main issue is the size of recording file. I've found that using the H.264 default quality 23 will take up about twice as much space as recording with other software, and there's not a very noticeable increase in clarity. I'm mainly using this software to record some videos and save in NAS, so file size will be more important to me. And the quality option from 1 to 51 is hard to use, it's difficult to accurately grasp the clarity/space occupation that you want to set, and setting it to 1 is more clarity than the 51 is also a bit confusing to me, so I'm wondering if you can set up a couple of preset quality options, such as 1080P/60, 1080P/30, 720P/60, 720P/30 etc.

Hello, Thanks for the feedback. First of all, the standard settings are a good solution for the most users. These default settings are a good compromise between CPU load, screen resolution, and file size.

Smaller files with the same image quality can only be achieved with a different encoder such as x265 or VP9. This requires powerful computers and is therefore not useful for most users.

Yes the rendering from 1080P to 720P results in smaller files, but also a blurry image.
