vkohaupt / vokoscreenNG

vokoscreenNG is a powerful screencast creator in many languages to record the screen, an area or a window (Linux only). Recording of audio from multiple sources is supported. With the built-in camera support, you can make your video more personal. Other tools such as systray, magnifying glass, countdown, timer, Showclick and Halo support will help

VokoscreenNG 3.8.0 has been released #284

A few new features have been added. You can now change the language directly without restarting. The newly introduced dark mode works just as easily.

The player has been completely rewritten and appears as an independent window on the screen. Another advantage of the new player is that Windows users no longer need an additional audio codec pack. This means that all audio codecs are included in the installation package.

The webcam now shows significantly better edge smoothing for circles and ellipses under Windows.

GIF is now also supported on Linux. To do this, the gstreamer-plugins-rs package must be installed. When using it, you should keep in mind that the FPS/second should be reduced to a minimum. 10fps/s is often enough. GIF is made for small pictures. Full screen recordings work, but produce very large files. A solution is being sought for Flatpak to get the gstreamer-plugins-rs package into it.

The GUI for Wayland has been revised but doesn't offer much new.

The current vokoscrennNG 3.8.0 is expected to be the last or penultimate version based on Qt 5. It is still unclear whether there will be a 3.9.0. With vokoscreenNG 4.0, Qt 6 is used and the work on this is largely completed.

The change log can be found here. https://linuxecke.volkoh.de/vokoscreen/vokoscreen-changes.html The Windows and Linux installation package here. https://linuxecke.volkoh.de/vokoscreen/vokoscreen-download.html

Have fun with vokoscreenNG Volker

Hi,

Thank you for the new version!

I've found it by chance because there's nothing new on the Release section. Is there a reason why it doesn't appear there for better visibility?

vkohaupt commented 1 year ago

The reason is simple, it was forgotten. This has now been fixed. Thanks.

I've seen now the release: thanks!

Any news from 4.* versions for Ubuntu/Linux ¿ Seems that windows versions are updated to 4.0, 4.1,4.2,,,, but linux versions are stuck on 3.8.0... Thanks

vkohaupt commented 1 month ago

Install with flatpak and you have the latest version.

ejgutierrez74 commented 1 month ago

But i installed in ubuntu 22.04 repos only vokoscreen 3.7.0..itd be nice to update in official repos of Ubuntu

If i install from flatpak i had to install many kde libraries ( about 600mb)...as now i dont use kde i only have installed gnome in my ubuntu 24.04 ( i have upgraded recently from 22.04, and i got vokoscreen from that release 22.04)

Who says such nonsense? Please install the flatpak version and that's it.

This in my ubuntu 24.04 :

Captura desde 2024-09-28 20-12-18

In spanish but quite self explanatory ....

This is org.kde.platform and does not only contain kde libraries. This includes, among other things, an almost complete Linux system with almost 40,000 files so that the programs run properly on the hundreds of distributions and desktops.

And if you don't want to install Flatpak packages, just don't. Or in other words, you don't need the program.

And to be honest, I'm tired of arguing about a few gigabytes of storage space.

ejgutierrez74 commented 1 month ago

Be calm my friend, i just want to ask if there is any reason why 3.8.0 you can download from website without any kde libraries or extra, and the flatpack package como with these kde libraries...Im not used to flatpack, and perhaps was the option to install only the program or it was any kind of error...and i notice that in website linux version is stuck in 3.8.0 while Wiondows version is in 4.2.0 .....

vkohaupt commented 1 month ago

I'll stay calm as long as nobody tells me about file sizes. It's annoying when users keep coming and saying that the installation package is too big, or the video file is so big, or Flatpak installs so many megabytes. It's not my problem if the user doesn't have enough disk space or web space.

Back to the topic. There will no longer be an extra package other than Flatpak. There's no point putting hundreds of hours of work into an installation package that is worse than Flatpak.

You could have also installed the Flatpak version, then you would have seen that the Windows and Linux versions are on par. As far as I could see, you were one keystroke away from that. I can reassure you, the computer wouldn't have exploded

I didnt mention anything related to filesize if you read my bad english post...only to install more libraries of KDE while 3.8.0 as far as i know didnt need them... Sorry if i said something that distrurbed you.

By the way not any relationship to you or vokoscreenNG of course, but nowdays ubuntu 24.04 has a known bug that many people cant install anything from flatpack at least using Software Market: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1513001/why-am-i-getting-this-flatpak-error-ldconfig-failed-exit-status-256-with-ever
