We probably want to use https://github.com/vkottler/datazen and leverage templating + loading configs + variables etc.

Requirements

easy to bootstrap (e.g. download file / clone something, execute script?)
individual files can specify "variants"?
- variant data is just different "variables" directories
- bootstrap script creates a hidden datazen manifest?
- hierarchical YAML config with a JSON schema?
- start a new Python project for this..

https://github.com/vkottler/rcmpy/issues/1 with some basic features we can do this, then we can use this issue to figure out the "bootstrapping" instructions (should just need git and pip)
