I played around with the data and have a few charts to share, all of them available here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1a9E7dwO-kulvCXIFOCjN48fblyKpqd3JkDBdONQiuag/edit?gid=397000190#gid=397000190
2016 looks to be the first year the City references in its charts, which is likely when the phase-in completed. Between then and 2021, the reporting rate for buildings was between 80-90%, so it would maybe impact the total measurement, but not by a ton. I think showing a chart like this gives a top level indication about gas usage in these larger buildings.
I also tried recreating the average GHG Intensity by Property chart from the 2021 Chicago Energy Benchmarking Report, but its kind of a mess. The categories look to be self-reported, and about 17% of them don't have any label at all. I did chart the top 10 categories by building count. Not sure how useful it is:
Maybe the best thing to show is to average GHG intensity across all building reported by year, similar to Natural Gas used above. It does show a trend downward:
It would be useful to see a high level aggregation for all buildings in the benchmark for a given year. The 2021 report by the city has a chart we could crib from:
It would also be useful, I think, to show a chart of methane gas usage by category over time as well.
I can spend some time and see what charts might be useful.
