add per-OS files #3

Specific files are needed on Ubuntu/macOS.

Perhaps also add OS detection function and use it in the source scripts.

some stuff for Ubuntu added in 5011fc2fb11dbab02542ed3c944e3a25173c9a79. For the time being this is done in the files themselves (is_ubuntu()) rather than having common file with OS detection function (where I'd need to worry about the order in which the files are sourced into .bashrc).
