It's not clear from README that git is used when deciding how to update the version:
when "edit" happens, if file is unmodified in git, the version is bumped
when "edit" happens, if file has been modified in git, the version is not bumped
The purpose is that multiple "edits" can happen without bumping version more than once. If multiple versions of the metadata are wanted, multiple commits should be used.
