Drag and drop cannot be used normally when using Wayland #571

Describe the bug

Drag and drop is not working for Ubuntu 21.10.

Recently, when I was using Kubuntu 21.10, I found that drag and drop can work normally. At first, I thought it was the relationship between KDE and Gnome. However, just now, I found that KDE uses xorg by default, while Gnome uses Wayland by default.

Screen Shot 2022-02-11 at 12 11 38 AM

So I tried to use xorg for Ubuntu 21.10. As a result, drag and drop worked normally.

I don't think open-vm-tools works properly when using Wayland,

Reproduction steps

1. Install Ubuntu 21.10 in VMware fusion
2. Install open-vm-tools(sudo apt install open-vm-tools*) and reboot
3. Drag and drop some file from host to guest(sometimes can succeed), or from guest to host (fail).

PS: If session use xorg, there will be no problem.

Expected behavior

Files can be dragged from the host to guest, and files can be dragged from the guest to host.

Additional context

No response

@luoqiangwei Thanks for reporting this issue. For completeness of this report, could you please confirm what version of open-vm-tools are you using in the guest and what product (Workstation/Fusion) version is in use on host side?

luoqiangwei commented 2 years ago

@ravindravmw VMWare Fusion Player Version 12.2.1 (18811640) open-vm-tools (2:11.3.0-2ubuntu1)
