FYI @martinRenou regarding the lerna 7 issue mentioned in the comment above, it might be because GitHub Actions ship Lerna 7 by default in their runners now.

I faced a similar issue recently in https://github.com/jupyterlite/pyodide-kernel/pull/51 which was causing the check release to fail on CI.

Adding an explicit jlpm in the before-bump-version releaser hook helped fix it.
