er.... How exactly is this "invalid" may i ask? Let me give you an example of
why it "is" valid...

Johnny n00b comes along into irc with some kinda of bug but notices a new
version out so he downloads latest version of multiMAN "Just" in case his bug
may have been fixed in the newer version.
Johnny N00b goes to install said newer version but multiMAN tells him ,Oh no
sunny you are already on the latest version.
Johnny n00b thinks ,Great I'll go report this bug.
Johnny n00b comes into irc and asks for help with his bug.
Ophelper tries to help him but cant reproduce Johnny n00bs bug, asks Johnny n00b
if he is on the latest version.
Johnny n00b replies very promptly with a smile, why yes,yes I am on the latest
version.
Ophelper and Johnny n00b spend a good amount of time trying to resolve Johnny
n00bs problem.
DevDean comes onto chan ...hi guys whats up?
Johnny n00b and Ophelper both report a bug to DevDean and says they have been
trying for ages to reproduce it but Ophelper just cant seem to find the bug
that Johnny n00b has (because Ophelper is actually on the latest version).
DevDean scrolls up and then says to Johnny n00b ,it was fixed in xx version
,what version are you on?
Johnny n00b replies ,latest version vx.xxx.xx ....
DevDean says thats an old version ,update to the latest
Johnny n00b says it can't be,multiMAN tells me its the latest version....

My point after all that is, its a pretty easy fix checking version number isn't
it ,and would save a hell of a lot of confusion for new comers to the app.

My2Cents...
