You literally won't make this thing open source, will you?

And anyways, i don't get what is the drill of just posting the source code already. Wtf.

...just posting the source code already. Wtf.

It's understandable that a person might be excited or want to use the source code for their personal project, but developers are not to be forced or badgered into releasing source code. The actions are to be voluntary, can be based on many factors and what the developers want to do, who own the full rights. Such courtesy is not for just this case, but for developers in general.

Guy is a douche

Who is really being the "douche"? Don't see why it's necessary to go down such a path. What's the point of coming over to insult developers, and then thanklessly use their code for personal projects.

The guy said he would release the source code in 2020

First, from what I can tell, there was no mention to do such a thing in 2020, but in 2021 (per 4 year old GitHub readme). And clearly, a lot was going on in the world in 2021 and 2022 due to "the worldwide virus".

It appears for the last few years, the volt-app.com website (quote below), has contradicted the GitHub readme (last updated March 2019). Which kind of should be a clue. Doesn't make sense to hold on to such an old readme (from 4 years ago) as if the gospel or something etched in stone. Usually, people just stop worrying about it until they see new activity from the author or some mention about it from them. The situation looks like a matter of both the website and GitHub not being updated (in quite a while), as apparently the author's attention was elsewhere.

Is Volt open-source? Not at the moment. Right now the development model is similar to that of Sublime Text.

There also appears to have always have been proprietary parts involved, because from the beginning they were talking about an affordable premium plan for more than 5 accounts (per website). It was the base functionality that was to be free. So it's unclear what parts would be open sourced. Anyway, "the guy" and those helping him are making the call. It's their right to decide.

"The guy", also made a programming language, which he used to create Volt in the first place. That's an absolutely huge undertaking. Something to take notice of is the app and the GitHub readme (March 2019) was before the language came out (June 2019). The language only went into beta this year (2023). I would think he (and it appears there are others working with him), would have rewrote Volt, to keep up with the changes of the language its written in. It's plausible, among other reasons, that they waited until the language reached a greater point of stability before doing the rewrite and then doing the beta release of Volt (where we are at now). They probably didn't want to update the site and GitHub readme, until the rewrite and the beta was ready. Lastly, the GitHub readme is very short and quick, which can create ambiguity for those trying to interpret the author's intent.

Anyway, we will soon see how this will all play out, as a beta version of Volt is about to be released (according to Twitter).

it would be nice to release the code related to making a desktop app in an efficient way. The initial concept. That would be very useful for the community to learn and build desktop app using V that can be very small. I am personally more interested by that part than the purpose of this app itself.
