Thoughts on reaching equilibrium:
q_tot_int =0
at all times... (e.g. contribution from viscous dissipation Mcdougall 2013). The model after spin-up with T-restoring might adjust to equilibrium.qns
contains signal of 'decadal' oscillations, reflected in sst
, ACC
, rho
etc... Imbalance due to viscous dissipation accepted for my purposes. Conclude, both options are okay.
Grid-aware mean salinity:
Grid-aware mean temperature:
--> could be argument for if diagnosing emp, then also diagnosing qtot
With Q_tot diagnosed as opposed to temperature restoring, the surface layer mean temperature increases. It may approach equilibrium, but very slow (~10 000 years from extrapolation)
For practical reasons, decide to stay with temperature restoring.
From meeting with Feiyu Lu. Having temperature restoring to zonal profile will decrease variability at the surface for high resolution runs (But should reflect a coupling to the atmosphere sst). Downside: qns does not represent lwr, latent, sensible heatflux depending on the sst fields, but is simply imposed (check with Julie how this is done in climate models)
