Since Sphinx version 1.8, there are these configuration options:

https://www.sphinx-doc.org/en/master/usage/configuration.html#confval-html_js_files

I think those are much better suited for user configuration and therefore they should be recommended in the docs.

OK, I’ll mention these configuration options but leave the other method in for users of Sphinx < 1.8.
