no cached images displayed on Firefox 2.0.0.x/PC

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. download and install current or historic release of bakesale with demo
products
2. navigate Firefox 2/windows xp to any page with images, such as
http://localhost/books-c-6.html
3. hit f5, or ctrl-r

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect the page to reload. All previously displayed images are missing

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
bakesale_1.2.2 with bugfixes on xampp/windows xp, but the same effect
happens on a much older version of bakesale live installed under debian
linux, for example here: http://www.twistedtwee.co.uk/shopfloor

Please provide any additional information below.
When reloading the cache (shift-click on refresh), everything is back.

This doesn't happen on Firefox 3 on the Mac, nor any other browser to speak
of. I don't seem to get the search terms right, i can't find any hint on
the web regarding what clearly is a browser issue. I wonder if it's
something with the response headers?

I can now confirm this doesn't happen on a FF 2.0.0.17 on the Mac. I've had this
problem for over a year now, through several minor FF upgrades. Can anybody 
confirm
this problem, or is it just my browser installation?
