Participants are encouraged to review sample existing applications that address concerns similar to the Challenge question, as well as mobile reporting systems designed for ordinary citizens to report on civil society matters.

CGNet Swara is an incredibly valuable resource here. It lets people call in and report news items, and has a moderator interface for approving them. People can then call in and listen to these reports. It's open source too.

Can you get a couple of apps running in the iOS simulator and we can try them out together?

Turns out we can't run apps off the app store in the simulator because they are compiled for a different architecture. I just remembered I tried doing this a while ago and you just can't. Looks like we are going to have to get an iPhone. Another alternative is either look for the source code or ask the developers to compile it for i386.
