Offline software? Export to Xbox and PlayStation consoles? #116

I was looking into GameMaker Studio or Contruct 2 as my game-maker when someone told me about Playir. My first question is: Can I work in Playir in a usual offline software? I'm so used to that as the most professional method to work. Second: Can I also export my game on Xbox and PlayStation consoles? I'm trying to make sure the publishing capabilities of Playir aren't limited. Thanks

Hi @adamcreator, thanks for the questions. I'd recommend trying out GameMaker Studio or Construct 2 first, as they have a larger developer community you can learn from.

For Playir, we're focusing more on building 3D multiplayer mobile games from pre-existing templates which you can customize visually or through the code. Where if there's a particular game you'd like to make, I could create a clone where you could build on top of to speed things up.

At the moment, an online connection is required to push updates through to the apps at runtime, however there is work being done to make it run fully offline and update manually (should be a month away from release). https://github.com/playir/playir/issues/87

The current focused is mobile and web development, it wouldn't be too hard to port the code to run on Xbox and Playstation (I used to be a console games developer), however currently this is on our roadmap. Is this something you're looking for immediately or in the next 6 months?

Thanks! So far I'm leaning towards Construct 2 since I don't want to get into GameMaker Studio's GML, but I'm spending today on playing with game-makers. Plus, the important thing is probably to make a good game. I assume if it's good enough it'll be easy enough to get some company to port it to other consoles.

I like Playir's comfort with both 3-D and multiplayer, which those other two game-makers don't seem as focused on. I assume games made on Playir can be completely independent royalty-free commercial indie games, but correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks!

Construct 2 looks really solid, I met one of there developers at Mozilla London a while back and he seemed like a safe dude.

You should also check out UnrealEngine4, it's plans (starting from free) seem like a dream. Plus, if you ever want to move into the world of getting a job at a AAA game studio, having UE4 experience is gold.

We're still in BETA, so our product's free to use, the plan for commercialisation is to introduce a Playir Pro membership which gives you free premium templates, dedicated server use (for multiplayer apps) and source code for publishing commercial ad-free apps on iOS (https://github.com/playir/playir/issues/83) /Android ( https://github.com/playir/playir/issues/84) /WP8.

If you have any suggestions for games/apps you'd like to have templates for, or general comments on pricing, would love to get your thoughts.

Thanks! I'd recommend my favorite game types: 2-D fighter (like Street Fighter 4), 3-D fighter (like SoulCalibur), and grid-based turn-based strategy game (like Fire Emblem series).
