Canot Make A Parent a Child of another CI

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Add a CI (parent)
2. Add a CI (child)
3. Set the CI (child)'s parent attribute to point to the CI (parent)
4. Open the CI (parent) and set its parent attribute to a third CI

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Should just save your changes.  Instead it gives a null pointer exception.

Update 4. Open the CI (parent) and set its parent attribute to a third CI where 
the
third CI is in a different category from the CI (Parent)

Setting priority to low as this is a feature  that is not recommended for use 
and so
should not occur in normal work with the application.
