Fixed Layout #44

In the charter there is no mention at all of Fixed Layouts, even if they are discreetly used (and for some books they may be the only option, such as children's books or comics).

I think the group should make a decision on this issue: carry on the FXL or discourage it?

The survey we've made says that several people would like to mix reflowable and FXL.

On the same topic I think we should investigate on accessibility for FXL EPUBs. Because I think that – if done well – the FXLs can be quite accessible, at least as much as a PDF.

At this point fixed layout is an integral part of EPUB. It is widely used and widely supported. Since it's integrated into the package spec I don't think we need to mention it explicitly.

Note that the spec already allows mixing reflowable and FXL—it's just not widely supported in reading systems.

I do agree that working on accessibility for FXL is important. I think that is in scope for the a11y specs.

My understanding is that this is an area which is also missing from the ISO version of EPUB A11y. All the more of a reason for taking it on in this WG.
