We also requested that, as the Unicode Consortium makes plans for the provision of images/svgs to represent the 'representative glyphs' used in code charts and in the HTML version of the Unicode Core text, they bear in mind the possibility of making that set available for the wider public.
We noted that we do not expect people to link directly to these images from their documents, since that would impact the bandwidth of the Unicode servers (as well as creating a long-term dependency), but that rather the public would be able to download zipped packages containing a given range of images.

This issue is to track progress by the Unicode Consortium related to the generation of glyph images and potentially the export of glyph images in formats such as SVG or PNG for download and use in specifications (and other applications).
@r12a and @aphillips had a conversation with Mark Davis about this and we intend to follow up on this over time. Mark noted that existing open source fonts, such as the Noto set, might be used to provide partial coverage and that Unicode would need time donated by software developer(s) to build this into their process.
