Great stuff -- thanks, Jos! Are you aware of http://www.unicode.org/notes/tn28/UTN28-PlainTextMath-v3.pdf (from Murray Sargent who does MS Word's native math support)?

Ah, we can add that doc to the page too. I wasn't aware of it.

There's also jqmath's syntax, which is a kind of plain-text serialization of presentation mathml.
