Because many laptops, tablets, phones and even watches from the last 8 years have Display P3 screens, Display P3 images are increasingly common.
The PNG spec can (together with a close reading of H.273) be interpreted to realize that PNG can use cICP to compactly label a Display P3 image, provided that the person reading them is aware that:
the display primaries for Display P3 are identical to those in SMPTE EG 432-1 (2010)
the transfer function for Display P3 is identical to sRGB, which is specified in IEC 61966-2-1 sRGB
and thus decimal 12/13/0/1 (hex 0C/0D/00/01) is Display P3
I suggest that ordinary readers of the spec, and ordinary implementers of programs that spit out images, would be better served by an explicit statement and a clear example ,so they don't need to go through all those steps.
