[ED][Media - Subtitles] is the example correct? #73

The example image at the end of the page shows subtitles in one language and captions in another - is this best practice? Should they be not in the same language?

Well, the whole thing about how subtitles are described is that they are in a different language, otherwise it would be captions. I find it extremely confusing, why not refer to it as “caption in the language of the audio” and “captions not in audio language”. I think the example might be from a language learning video where the essential learning part is captioned in the language and the additional, inessential information is captioned in the host language. Another example might be other language bits in an English language film. For example, if two people speak Spanish and you don’t want to translate it in the captions for some (dramatic) reason, you might want to have sounds in the host language still.
