[ED-HIGH] disclaimers #299

Closed shawna-slh closed 10 months ago

Note: This is illustrative and is not a complete list of all disabilities or barriers.

Note: This page is illustrative and is not a complete list of all the ways that people interact with the web.

[HIGH]

I do not think these should be in the summary. It gives it too much prominence and weight, and feels like it is a credibility hit on the whole thing.

[LOW]

"illustrative" doesn't seem like the right word.

Solution?

Sorry I don't have my writer hat right now. Hopefully @JayneSchurick or other can come up with suggestions along with https://github.com/w3c/wai-people-use-web/issues/298

I changed it to "This section is meant to be descriptive and does not contain a complete list of all disabilities or barriers."

shawna-slh commented 10 months ago

better! though what does "This section is meant to be descriptive..." mean?

Maybe just like:

These examples are not a complete list of all disabilities or barriers. These examples are not a complete list of all the ways that people interact with the web.

JayneSchurick commented 10 months ago

Ok, now I'm jumping up to the previous sentence. How about getting rid of the note and rephrasing the whole thing:

This section highlights some of barriers that people experience due to inaccessible websites and web tools. The examples given are not a complete list of all disabilities or barriers.

JayneSchurick commented 10 months ago

@shawna-slh Please approve changing:

This section explores the wide diversity of abilities. It highlights some web accessibility barriers that people commonly experience because of inaccessible websites and web tools.

Note: This section is meant to be descriptive and does not contain a complete list of all disabilities or barriers.

to:

This section highlights some of barriers that people experience due to inaccessible websites and other digital content. The examples given are not a complete list of all disabilities or barriers.

Then, on the individual abilities-barriers pages, the note would say:

Note: The examples given are not a complete list of all disabilities or barriers.**

Individual tools-techniques pages would say:

Note: The examples given are not a complete list of all the ways that people interact with digital content.

Thanks @JayneSchurick

I'm thinking with the current design of the sub-pages, we don't need anything about "Note: The examples given are not a complete list..." because the headings all start with "Examples..."

@brianelton @kakinney Do you want to ask EOWG in Friday meeting?

JayneSchurick commented 10 months ago

Get rid of note but take a portion of it and add it to the intro on each page.
