Spanish - Addressing an entity when abbreviated #216

In the candidate official Spanish translation of WCAG 2.0 you will find this expression often: "las WCAG". The feminine, plural article is being used to refer to "las pautas". Similarly, "el W3C" is using a masculine, singular article for "el consorcio".

Technical documents are full of abbreviations like the ones above and sometimes I find it hard to address them. One example: WAI (Iniciativa por la Accesibilidad Web). In spoken language I've heard people say "el WAI", when it should actually be "la WAI", with feminine, single article for "la iniciativa", shouldn't it?

So here's the question: should we say "el WAI" or "la WAI"? What do you think?

Thanks, @espinr! I had a doubt with WAI, but I totally agree with you. Will be using "la WAI" in the translations.
