Image is likely to be used in a few places, including:

Please don't use flags. They are ok for switching to different regional sites, but they are not ok for switching between languages.

Another key recommendation is to resist the temptation to use country flags to identify languages. Some countries have more than one language, and some languages are spoken in more than one country. Although flags may be suitable to link to geographically tailored versions of a page, such as a UK vs. a Canadian vs. an Australian retail site, they are not appropriate for linking to pages that are simply translations.

Please don't use flags.

The page didn't suggest using a flag to indicate a language; rather, listed as one option using a cluster of flags to indicate a list of languages.

Anyway, I marked the cluster of flags "ruled out".

(If you are strongly oppose the cluster of flags, you might want to convince the CSS web page folks to change theirs. :-)

Either use the “pseudo-standard” icon or no indication at all.
