[Home page] first big image #93

What is the plan for this image? Will the image be resource specific? That is, the image will try to convey something related to the featured resource, and thus the image will change with the resource?

If so, it would be great to get upcoming images lined up! Here are the tentative plans for the first few featured resources:

[Alicia <- James] for images & icons.

More info on these and future plans https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1oYO8xsoKHNWkxZ3IxOv3bOjhqV3dQddjRID5XCk_27Y/edit#gid=0

I am on the fence about whether the large image should try to match the Featured Resource or not. I am leaning a bit more towards finding soft, none cluttered, non distracting images (very much like the current one) that show any aspect of accessibility and/or assistive technology. I like that the image is zoomed in so that it is not a fully framed picture (those distract more) but more of a small portion of a larger picture but zoomed to fit the container. I like the style Alicia choose for this first mockup.

I think it would be hard to find an image for BAD that would not be distracting, or an image for tutorials?. But - I am open to see what people come up with if they want to try.

My strongest comment: It needs to be an image that does not grab attention, but works to further the design and idea of accessibility.

IMHO it would be best if we had an image that fits into the context. Unfortunately, images like that are hard to find. If we don’t change the image people might go “banner blind” when accessing the home page.

(Note: We might be able to have the box on the right side as well if it is needed by the image. However, for general usability, I think we prefer the left side.)

Got this update from Shawn: W3C now has an account with .... We get limited number of images. Let us know if there are any there you like for the WAI home page. (We might get some now and some later when needed.) Also, people have found good free images from ...

The ... images look like they overlap quite a bit with .... So if Eric was able to get those, I think it probably makes sense to wait and see if there's something specific we need later to use the ... credits.

I got them and I shared a dropbox folder with @slhenry a few days ago. (I wonder if that worked, I haven’t heard back.)
