What comes to mind when I see the text stream references is "how is this done technically?" What does it look like? Is this different than a transcript of audio description? Is it a separate channel?
I don't know how it is doe technically, but it is sometimes possible to read the captions' content with a screen reader in braille. Sometimes the text moves too quickly but one can read it. MOst of the time, it is difficult to locate where the displayed text is. I think I remember that reading captions with able player in braille was rather easy. As far as the sentence is concerned in the checklist section, actual text: "Text stream available to screen readers for braille" Proposal: Text stream that can be sent to the screen reader and read on the user's braille display.
(I don’t know enough about this to give good – or indeed, any – advice 😀)
I'd like to leave this issue open for later work, and not hold up publication of current version.
I would like this resource to include what is needed so that people who are Deaf-blind and use a screen reader and braille have access to audio and video on the web, including pre-recorded and live. (This will go beyond WCAG requirements.)
A rough pass is in the Planning page Checklists.
Input welcome!
