[Tips pages] Titles are quite long #722

Open hidde opened 5 years ago

I found these titles quite long:

Tips for Getting Started Writing for Web Accessibility Tips for Getting Started Designing for Web Accessibility Tips for Getting Started Developing for Web Accessibility

and the second “for” made me read twice.

What about:

Tips for Copy Writers Tips for Designers Tips for Developers

(because web, accessibility, tips and possibly even also getting started are implied?)

cc @slhenry (if you agree I'm happy to do the work)

Hi Hidde. It is good to have your input. There is a lot of EOWG background behind these titles. We would need to get up-to-speed on what went into the decisions to use those titles. And then re-open it with EOWG. I have several thoughts, but cannot prioritize spending time on it right now. Please put this on hold, and we'll see if we can get to it with other work later. Thanks!

thanks for the reply, I had suspected there would be some context to this… On hold it is!

Also, the titles can be shorter when I finalize the implementation of resource titles: https://github.com/w3c/wai-website/issues/157 (hopefully next week)

Briefly, a few of the points:

tips and possibly even also getting started are implied

(because web, accessibility, … are implied

For readers who are familiar with the WAI website or look around and figure that out, yes. However, some people might land on this page without any context. Also, good to have those words in title for SEO Also, title will be used out of context, including:

There is a line break on the H1s:

Tips for Getting Started
Writing for Web Accessibility

and we'll still continue to work on improvements! :-)
