Agenda suggestion: Person-driven advertising.
Ads personalization today is largely achieved through the use of behavioral data (both first-party and third-party). I'd like to talk about the theoretical potential of using more user-stated / controlled preferences to guide the selection of ads. This approach has been called out (along with contextual advertising) as a privacy-friendly approach to an ads-supported internet by groups like the Norwegian Consumer Council. (link)
I've put forward one possible approach in the "Ad Topic Hints" proposal: https://github.com/privacycg/proposals/issues/26 Valentino (@dialtone ) has put forward another possible approach: https://github.com/AdRoll/privacy/blob/main/PAURAQUE.md
This is just the beginning of this conversation though. Would love to hear diverse perspectives on this idea.
Agenda suggestion: Standardizing contextual advertising in the W3C.
Thanks to @benjaminsavage's suggestion for the idea.
@AramZS - I joined today's call late. Is the following a recommendation for TPAC 2021 content?
- Examining Privacy Signals: GPP, TCF, GPC
The contextual standard conversation is good, but I think it would be great to include the up-for-comment standard from the IAB in there.
