What about mono as an option - perhaps with visual helpers (like a ImAc radar map)?

Thanks for the suggestion @cdpatnoe we will discuss this in RQTF. Any more info you can share on the user need for this requirement?

not all people have two functioning ears, and/or ears can have different levels of performance. Both Android and iOS had mono modes so we may inherit a monophonic function from the platform, so experience designers should be aware that you can't count on audio to infer location.
