@cdpatnoe We are very interested in gestural remapping - and the setting of user preferences in a fluid/customisable way.
We have flagged Gestural mapping here https://www.w3.org/TR/xaur/#gestural-interfaces-and-interactions
Are you asking about explicitly providing simpler gestures where there already exists some kind of gestural configuration? A way of remapping further?
Yes, I see this as a corollary to button mapping for game controllers.
You'll never get it right for everyone, so why not allow people to remap to what's possible for them?

@cdpatnoe Can you expand on the user need here? And if possible the technical requirements as you see them? I'm trying to get a sense for how to articulate this, thanks.
The goal is simple: if you have a physical gesture (say move you hand across your face to cancel), provide an option to remap it to a gesture that someone can do - what if they can't raise their hand enough to be registered, Does that help?

Thanks @cdpatnoe FYI this was only briefly discussed in Research Questions Task Force https://www.w3.org/2020/04/15-rqtf-minutes.html#item03
I plan to bring it back to the task force at tomorrows meeting.
Discussed further in RQTF https://www.w3.org/2020/06/17-rqtf-minutes.html - there may be a need for dynamic re-mapping of interactions as needed. Like virtual switch key remapping on the fly so this does indicate a new requirement.
@cdpatnoe Have added NEW REQUIREMENT to second draft : REQ 9c: Allow for the re-mapping of gestures to associate different actions with different input types or gestures. This may be a virtual switch that can map to new macros on the fly. This will allow the user to change defaults and employ gestures to carry out new actions offered by the immersive environment as required.
That's great to hear, thank you!

Similar to the ability to remap controls for a controller, gestural interfaces should allow for people with mobility or fine motor control problems to remap to a simpler gesture. Perhaps different gestures could be allowed for a given interaction
(note: the title of the section may be confusing me, gestures are such a broad interaction method, not just impacting blind - perhaps this could be part or 4.5?)
