I just want to point out something I'd observed before but just realized a likely cause for.
I noticed that the current to the C1+ seemed to increase a little after the XU4 was powered on. After seeing the lights on the ethernet ports start blinking, I realized that it was likely a piece contributing to the "total being greater than the sum of parts". You can check this by unplugging the ethernet cable and seeing the current to the devices drop.
It's not a serious problem, but for anyone who ends up looking at this in the future, you'll probably witness this too. Ha...seems obvious now...
