Design improvements #13

I've tried to improve the design, especially the alignment issues as well as make it more responsive.

This runs on the preview site and in local development fine 👍 One minor design tweak I noticed from testing was that the left hand side topic cards get slightly more padding than the right; would be nice to address this in this MR.
