JSON Schema is the most prevalent schema language for JSON data, and Open mHealth schemas are written in JSON Schema to facilitate their adoption. Using JSON Schema also allows developers to take advantage of its ecosystem of libraries and language bindings.

We chose JSON Schema as the schema language for Open mHealth data because it meets the needs of defining digital health data for clinical use. API documentation tools like RAML and Swagger have adopted it, as have companies like Google and Heroku.
