Johns Hopkins rethinks COPD Patient Management

imgresThe Armstrong Institute at Johns Hopkins recently rethought how it cares for COPD patients, both in the clinic and between visits.

And it started with research. The clinic took out a booth at the Maryland State Fair where 350 people viewed and commented on their thougths about pre-op experience. That helped clinicians design interventions that were both medically correct and relevant to patients.

Highlights of the project:

Research: Ask patients what they need before building interventions
Intervention: Offer tools that meet patient and clinician need, including digital health
Clinical workflow: Look to in-clinic processes changes (nuse shift changes, patinet info boards, visiting hours) that may improve outcomes
