Cursor snappiness when clicking on text #1787

Describe the solution you'd like?

When I click on a character to position my cursor there, I see that the cursor snaps to the left of the character I click on. This is rarely what I want, since I usually want to position my cursor somewhere and start adding text to the right of it. Is it possible to have the cursor snap to the side of the character that I click on? i.e. cursor snaps to the left if I click on the left half of the character, and to the right if I click on the right half of it. This is (at least, as far as I can tell) already how other text editors behave.
