Describe the bug

I installed the latest .deb on my Ubuntu and after installing ran warp-terminal. it pops a window with nothing.

To reproduce

install .deb 2. Open it

hey @Pola5h sorry to hear about this, make sure your glibc version is >= 2.31, also are you using wayland or x11 window manager?

@dannyneira thanks for the replay.. my glibc version is ldd (Ubuntu GLIBC 2.38-1ubuntu6.1) 2.38 and I am using x11 window manager

Try the appimage pkg,

Install Fuse using the instructions outlined here.
Download and install appimaged from their repository.
Assuming you are on x86, you can also follow the link here to download.
If you already have appimaged or appimagelauncher installed, you can skip this step and jump to step
Make the appimaged executable by running chmod +x appimaged-815-x86_64.AppImage
Run the executable by executing ./appimaged-815-x86_64.AppImage.
Then install Warp with:

curl -L "https://app.warp.dev/download?package=appimage" -o Warp-x86_64.AppImage
chmod +x Warp-x86_64.AppImage
./Warp-x86_64.AppImage

Hey @Pola5h - mind sharing your Warp logs? They can be found in ~/.local/state/warp-terminal/warp.log. I'd recommend quitting Warp, deleting the log file, starting Warp again (for a fresh set of logs), and then attaching that file.

Same issue on Fedora 39. I used RPM to install. It complains about libcurl, but I have both libcurl and libcurl-devel installed.

Similar issue here! I'm using Linux Mint, XFCE, X11 and I have a Nvidia graphics card. I installed warp using .deb package. Here are my logs:

This window is totally frozen, so I cannot click anything. Some minutes after, the system suggests killing the process.

hey folks, we're investigating these issues and believe most should be fixed with Wayland support.

I'm experiencing the same issue in Fedora 39 with X11.

How soon will a fix appear for X11, then, if Wayland is supported?

I have the same issue on Fedora 39 Kinoite (using Wayland). But for some strange reason I can run Warp successfully in a Fedora 39 Podman container through Distrobox.

Running a terminal emulator in a container is not that convenient as running on the host, though, so I'm looking forward for the fix.

I am able to run Warp in a container, which only has access to my Intel iGPU and then Warpify the host shell from there.

Seems plausible, but after rebooting my system, warp appears to now loads as expected. Some of the icons appear glitched, but that's about it. I have been able to reproduce the symptoms from yesterday, but rebooting the system seems to temporarily resolve the issue....

same here. Sometimes it worked on the host system once and then when I close it and reopen then the issue is back

Press Settings in the upper right corner of the app, then Features and then in the bottom you can find this setting.

If you can't open the app, then there isn't any way to do this. The way I did it was that I ran the application in a Fedora Distrobox container. In such container the Nvidia card cant be accessed and therefore the app works there. Then I enabled the setting to prefer integrated GPU. This will now be saved in the app's settings under .config and then it can be opened outside of the container because it will read the settings from the same location.

By running nvidia-smi it told me I had a Nvidia graphics driver mismatch. After a reboot the nvidia-smi command properly listed all my GPU processes... Then Warp opened as expected.

Wish I had a proper solution... :disappointed:

By running nvidia-smi it told me I had a Nvidia graphics driver mismatch. After a reboot the nvidia-smi command properly listed all my GPU processes... Then Warp opened as expected.

Wish I had a proper solution... :disappointed:

Nvidia drivers cause way too many problems on Linux. Will there ever be a day when they don't cause problems 🤔😶 The problem is most likely Nvidia related & I'd kinda be surprised if it wasn't....

I had issues like this as well in Ubuntu 23.10. Turned out I didn't have any nvidia graphics drivers installed suddenly. After I fixed that it works great.

What finally worked for me:

$ sudo lshw -c display

Saw that it was not using the latest Nvidia driver which is nvidia-driver-535 (proprietary, tested), so then ran.

$ sudo ubuntu-drivers install

It then ran through installation of the Nvidia drivers. When it was complete I rebooted and then Warp would launch fine. If I go into Software & Updates > Additional Drivers I now see that the 535 driver is selected.

Hope this helps someone else because there was significant spelunking to get the right combo that works.

Make sure GPU acceleration is enabled on VMware box and update xorg in Ubuntu to see if that helps

We're working on native wayland support which may solve some of the issues, but we also have a list of possible workarounds here, Nvidia drivers seem to be a major blocker for many running Wayland apps. https://docs.warp.dev/help/known-issues#linux-workarounds

Great! I just checked latest version (2024.03.12.08.02.stable ) and it works like a charm with no need of other change of preferences or configurations. A few days ago I was able to run a previous version of warp-terminal using "env WGPU_BACKEND=gl warp-terminal" in the terminal. But now it is not needed.
