Describe the bug

Warp is extremely slow to open compared to other terminal emulators like Gnome Console or Blackbox.

Warp consistently takes much, much longer than other terminal emulators to open. The same behaviour is observed when Warp is opened from the terminal using the warp-terminal command.

To reproduce

Open Warp terminal.

Expected behavior

Warp will open to a functional terminal window in a similar amount of time as other terminal emulators

Screenshots

These screencasts are not extremely accurate in the timing. However, the difference is so large, that the difference is evident even with this methodology.

Hey @jay-tau, thank you for filing. Warp definitely shouldn't be taking this long to start. Would you mind sharing the output of the logs when you invoke warp-terminal so we can try to better debug?

Hey Aloke! PFA the logs. After Warp opened, I executed ^D, so that I could close it.

@jay-tau Do you have anything in your ~/.local/share/warp-terminal directory?

~/.local/share is present but not ~/.local/share/warp-terminal/warp-terminal

Gotcha. And one more question for you to help us better debug: If you turn your internet off and try to start Warp, does it improve the speed? One theory is that we are incorrectly making a blocking network request (possibly to verify you are still logged in).

I don't see any difference in the speed.

Also, I wanted to point out, that once it has loaded, Warp is responsive (as expected)

Thanks for the additional info. I think we need more logging within Warp to make more progress on this issue. I'll prioritize adding more logging and will follow up with more details with a version to test shortly.

Hello! I was having the same problem related to slow startup, and after disabling Secure Boot in my computer's BIOS (because I had drivers problems) I noticed that this "delay" disappeared. Could this be related?

I have secure boot off. So, I don't think that could be the issue.

Compared to guake, it feels much slower to reappear when pressing the global hotkey. I have ubuntu 23.10

This issue seems to have been resolved on v0.2024.03.26.08.02.stable_02
