Error when installing #503

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

I am using Windows 7, 64-bit. I am trying to install Grafx2 version 2.3. This
is the error I get when running the exe:

Error opening file for writing:
...\Grafx2\src-2.3.1781.tgz
Click Abort to stop the installation, Retry to try again, or Ignore to skip
this file.

This happens every time I try to install the exe. Clicking both Ignore and
Retry are fruitless; Retry continues to ask for the file, and Ignore just
brings me to another file that I need, and it goes down a list apparently.

Help, please!

I think it's because you're trying to install in a system directory, such as
"Programs", which is protected by default. When I made the installer there was
no way to make the exe request the rights when it runs, so it's up to you when
you install : right-click the exe, and select "Run as administrator".
More help here:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/11841-run-administrator.html
Only the installer requires these rights : After the program is installed, you
can run it as a normal user, the configuration gets saved in "Application Data"
which is normally writable.

Wow, thanks a lot! That hadn't even occurred to me... It's totally working now.
Thank you!
