I might have to add that I also changed my hosts file via the tool "Spybot".
It should contain lots of adresses used by malware, phishing and ad companies.

These are the only 2 relevant changes I made since the time PeerBlock still
worked
flawlessly.

Here are the links to the 2 programs used, maybe you can reproduce the error:
a) http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/
b) http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

I have no idea if it'll fix your problem, but you really should consider
updating to
the latest available version, r181.

Peerblock.log, which should be in your PeerBlock folder, would be helpful. If
you
could attach it, I'm sure it'll help out in finding out what's wrong.

Here you go.
Check for 30th September 2009.
It occurred today after several days of running just fine.

Solved!
PeerBlock 1.0 somehow escaped me.
Nevertheless, after installing the latest version over r172 the problem
persisted.
Only after totally erasing the old r172 and installing r181 it worked again..

Some config must have gone sour, I guess.

Hmm, interesting. I'll leave this bug open for a little while, in case the
problem
comes back. I'll also try installing the MS Security Essentials stuff to see
if I
can repro the problem. Very strange that it would crash with the error that it
did;
looks like one of your list-files may have been corrupted, which would explain
why
only a fresh install would fix it...

In case some program suddenly stops working I always try to think back and
trace what
I have done that might have caused the problem.

Right now,I think it was a corrupted blocklist as well, because the
fresh-installed
r181 runs flawslessly while MSE is on.
